A one off night promoting MTAT’s “Songs for Mum – A Compilation vs Cancer” album. All proceeds from the album and the evening will go directly towards Barry’s charity drive this year to raise as much as possible for The Maggies Centre.

“2015 marks a significant milestone in my life as its 25 years since I lost my mother to cancer in 1990. I was only 9 years old and growing up without her was pretty rough. Somewhere along the next few years I stumbled into punk rock and found the part I’d been missing, a creative outlet for all the feelings I was constantly trying to make sense of. It soon became apparent this was not going to be just a “phase” and I grew into a whole different family where I could do the things I needed to do and say the things I needed to say. It’s the worst cliche to say, but punk rock saved my life. In a stark reminder of how pertinent this disease is, our family is once again involved in a battle against it right now and the help and advice from The Maggie’s Centre has been a huge factor in trying to overcome this.

This compilation has been drawn from asking my peers I grew up playing music with, and throwing a few speculative emails off to bands I consider to have played a part in my life, inviting them to submit me a song of loss or hope. Those being the type of songs I always got most comfort from. It’s a truly personal project yet I know it will hold universal appeal, as we all must deal with loss in our lives.

The album drops digitally on Friday 14th August, 25 years to the day this journey began. This show happens on Sat 15th August and I’ve drawn in a bunch of my favourite acts to help us promote this cause, celebrate all the people who are no longer with us, and the raise what we can to help all the current battles against cancer.

Music is my biggest healer and greatest release, I can think of no other way to do this than to be in a room with my friends screaming my lungs out and choking back tears. Please come join us, every single penny raised will go directly to helping other families battling cancer.”
